Reference Meeting Agenda - April 3

Jami, Paul, and I would like to share some info from the Web 2.0 SOLINET workshop in Arlington on March 20. With some time for interest and discussion, I would estimate this would take about 15 minutes. Comments on timing are welcome.  Minutes have been posted to the L drive under Reference/Meeting Minutes/April 3, 2008 minutes

Contemporary Designers Assignment
________________________________________
While I am gone, I want you each to investigate the work of important theatrical designers, so that you get a better understanding of the various styles and approaches to theatrical design.  Some of the information you need will be electronic and some in books.  You can submit the project in either electronic format (blog, web page, CD) or print format.  I am concerned here that you look at not only what each of these designers designed, but how they went about their process of design.

BE SURE TO MAKE THE CORRECT CITATIONS FOR YOUR SOURCES, especially if you use electronic sources.  You may cut and paste from both types of sources, but be sure that you give credit to the authors of the original material.  In other words, if Wikipedia has an accurate biography (which you would know by checking it against other sources) then just cut and past it into your project, with a link to the entire page.  It is silly to re-write something if someone has already written it well, but the only way you will know if it is written well is to judge the authority of the author as well as the integrity of the information.

Do not hesitate to ask the reference librarians for help in locating sources.  I will send a copy of this assignment to them.  Do not let them do the work for you.

Choose two of the designers listed below.  For each designer, find the following information.

1. Provide a biography of each designer.
2. Provide their philosophy of design.
-This may be stated by the designer themselves or by a second party, such as a             scholar who has studied all their work.
3. Find 5 color examples of their work.
